Overview
Name Game ("we", "our", or "the app") is a multiplayer party guessing game. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Player Names: Display names you choose when joining a game. These are temporary and not linked to any account.
- Game Content: Names you add to the game bucket during gameplay.
Information Collected Automatically
- Session Data: A randomly generated player identifier and your chosen display name, stored locally on your device (in your browser's storage on the web, and in app storage on iOS and Android) so you can rejoin a game after closing the app. It is not linked to you and is not used to track you across apps or websites.
- Device Information: Basic device type, app version and language. No advertising identifiers are collected.
- Usage Analytics: We record how the game is used, so we know which features are worth keeping. This covers events like a game starting and finishing, how long it lasted, how many players and how many names it had, which screens were opened, and whether the coffee tip jar was used.
We never send the names you type. Only counts of them — a game with twelve names reports the number twelve, never the names themselves. Display names, team names and game codes are not sent either.
Analytics uses its own randomly generated identifier, separate from your player identifier, so we can tell repeat plays from first-time ones. It is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. - Purchase History: If you buy a coffee to support the app, our payments provider RevenueCat records which product you bought so your supporter badge can be restored later. This is held against an anonymous identifier created for your install — there are no accounts to link it to. We never see or receive your payment details; those stay with Apple.
How We Use Information
- To enable real-time multiplayer gameplay between players
- To generate AI-powered name suggestions (when enabled)
- To allow you to rejoin games if disconnected
- To understand how the game is played in aggregate — how often games are finished, which modes get used — so we can improve it
- To grant and restore the supporter badge if you buy a coffee
We do not sell your data, show ads, or use any of it for advertising or profiling.
Data Storage & Retention
- Game Data: All game data is temporary and deleted when the game session ends.
- Local Storage: Your player identifier and display name are stored only on your device. Clearing your browser storage, or deleting the mobile app, removes them.
- No Accounts: We do not require user accounts and do not store personal information on our servers.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- PartyKit: For real-time game synchronization between players.
- OpenAI: For AI-generated name suggestions, only when you use that feature. We send the requested count, the chosen difficulty, and — if you have “locked” names so that generated suggestions match their theme — the text of those locked names. Since you choose what to type into those fields, please avoid entering personal information there. We do not send your display name, your player identifier, or your game code.
- Railway: Hosts our website and the name generation service. Requests to it include your IP address, which is used for rate limiting and standard server logging.
- PostHog: For the usage analytics described above. Our PostHog project is hosted in the European Union. Analytics does not set any cookies — on the web it stores its identifier in your browser's local storage. We have turned off IP address collection, so no location is recorded, and we have turned off session recording and automatic event capture, so no recording is made of your screen and nothing you type is captured.
- RevenueCat: Processes coffee tips in the mobile app and holds your supporter entitlement, so the badge can be restored on a new device. It receives the App Store transaction and an anonymous per-install identifier, not an account. It does not receive your display name, your player identifier, or anything you type into a game. Purchases themselves are handled by Apple — we never see your card or billing details.
Children's Privacy
Name Game does not require accounts and all game data is temporary. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Please note that the app lets players type their own names into a shared bucket that everyone in their game can see. We apply an automatic content filter and provide in-app reporting and host-initiated player removal, but text typed by other players is not pre-screened by a human, so we recommend adult supervision for younger players.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Clear your local session data at any time through your browser or device settings, or by deleting the app
- Play without providing any personal information
- Report inappropriate content from within the game, which removes it for everyone
- Clear the analytics identifier by clearing your browser storage or deleting the app, which starts a new one from scratch
- Request information about data practices by contacting us
